Participants at IN-SIGHT recently enjoyed an afternoon of creativity and self-expression during a pressed flower craft workshop designed for adults living with visual impairments.
Using an assortment of colorful pressed flowers, participants carefully arranged and glued their selections into glass frames, transforming natural materials into beautiful, one-of-a-kind works of art. Each finished piece reflected the maker’s individual style and creativity, with designs ranging from simple, elegant arrangements to vibrant floral collages.
For some participants, the workshop also offered a chance to create meaningful decorations for their homes. Others shared that they planned to give their framed artwork as gifts to family members and friends, adding a personal touch to upcoming celebrations and special occasions.
To support participants with low vision, several individuals used video magnifiers while working on their projects. The magnifiers helped enlarge the delicate flowers, making it easier to see details and carefully position each piece within the frame. The adaptive technology allowed participants to work with greater confidence and independence throughout the activity.
The workshop was filled with conversation, laughter, and a sense of accomplishment as participants watched their artistic visions come to life. By the end of the session, everyone left with a unique framed creation and the satisfaction of having turned simple pressed flowers into lasting works of art.
Programs like this highlight how creativity, adaptive tools, and a supportive environment can come together to provide engaging and meaningful experiences for adults who are blind or visually impaired. The finished pieces served as a reminder that art can be both accessible and deeply personal, allowing participants to express themselves while creating something beautiful to enjoy and share.
