Living Independently

Living with a visual impairment can make doing some things we do every day a bit more challenging, but not impossible.

We can work with you individually, or in small group workshops, to learn adaptations that will help you safely and confidently cook, clean, travel, do laundry, organize clothing, manage your finances, and do dozens of other daily tasks.

A good first step is to meet with our Vision Rehabilitation Teacher to talk about the things that you are finding to be more challenging. Together, we can assess what the most important things are that you would like to learn and map out a training schedule.

Among the skill areas that people find the most helpful are organization and labeling strategies to make locating things easier, enhancing contrast to make it easier to find things, and enhancing safety, improving lighting, and kitchen safety strategies.

Our independent living skills training is donor-funded and offered at no cost to you. To schedule a conversation with a member of our staff, complete the form below and we will reach out to you as soon as possible.
