Summer Ceramics Workshops

We are hosting a summer ceramics workshop series at Mudstone Studios!

The workshops for July are now full, however, we will be offering a second set of workshops on Thursdays, August 6, 13, and 20 from 10:30 AM – 12 PM, and there are still open seats for this series.

If you would be interested in participating in this series, please contact Chris Butler at info@in-sight.org. Please also note the following:

  • Due to the current social distancing guidelines, we will only be able to have 5 people participate in this workshop series. The studio has been reconfigured so that everyone will be seated at least six feet apart, which is the reason for the reduced number of participants.
  • Please only sign up to participate if you will be able to attend all three sessions, as they build upon each other.
  • If you are sick, or if you have any symptoms of COVID-19 you will be asked to stay home. If you arrive exhibiting symptoms you will be asked to go home. We will help arrange a ride home for you if you are sick and do not have one immediately available.
  • All participants must wear a face covering at all times while in the studio.
  • All participants will be asked to wash their hands upon entering the studio.
  • All participants will be asked to follow the instructions and guidelines provided by the staff at Mudstone Studios in order to keep everyone safe and healthy.

Here is the description of this workshop series:

Week 1: Coil plates

Using sturdy chinette plates as a hump form to work over, students will roll pencil thick coils and apply them in spirals and designs.

Week 2: Textured slab plates

Students will roll slabs with rolling pins and texture them with stamps and serrated tools. They will patchwork those pieces together over chinette plates to create a fun design on their plates.

Week 3: Glazing

We’ll use several colored stains to highlight the texture work, sponge away, and then apply transparent glazes over all. These plates will be dishwasher and microwave safe.

Please Note:

Each participant will donate one plate to the IN-SIGHT fall auction to help raise funds to support the agency’s art programs.
