Looking Forward provides an opportunity for people new to vision loss to learn how to successfully manage the journey towards living an independent and confident life despite the challenges they may initially face.

Facilitated by our Client Outreach Coordinator Doreen Holmes, this three-session series provides a safe and supportive place to explore the social, emotional, practical, and social aspects of vision loss.

Session 1: The Vision Loss Journey
While everyone’s story is unique, there is a definite process that people go through as they learn to adapt to vision loss. During this session, you will hear about the journeys other participants have taken and have the chance to share your own. We will wrap up by discussing the vision loss adjustment model and how to make a healthy transition to living the life you want.

Session 2: Support Networks
Few people take this journey on their own, but it is not unusual to sometimes still feel isolated or misunderstood. In this session, we will talk about the important people in our lives, how to set healthy boundaries, and ways to ask for help by communicating your needs effectively.

Sessions 3
Many resources and tools are available to help you, but which are right for you? How do you access them? How do you even know what is available? During this session, we will help you define your current and future needs, identify possible solutions, and help you make connections with those supports.

Participants must commit to attending all three sessions. Lunch is provided thanks to supporting from our Annual Fund Appeal.
