Updates on our Services

Beginning June 1, most of our staff will be returning to the office in order to start planning how we can safely offer limited in-person services in the near future. Here are some updates on specific programs:

Low Vision Evaluations: we hope to restart our adult and pediatric low vision evaluations soon, however, we are not able to provide a specific date at this time. Our optometrists are currently not available to return to work, but once they are we will contact everyone whose appointments were canceled to reschedule.

In-Person Training: we hope to resume limited one-on-one independent living skills, assistive technology, and perhaps O&M training soon. In the meantime, be sure to check out 2 Minute Tips from Carla Ferreira which will help you learn a new independent living skill every day.

Virtual Training: our staff is available to work with you via phone or video conference to help you with a specific issue you may be having. We are also offering virtual support group meetings and workshops. For more information, email us at info@in-sight.org.

IN-SIGHT Radio: as an essential information service, IN-SIGHT Radio has remained on the air since the start of COVID-19 with live readings of the Providence Journal as well as the recording of a dozen local newspapers updated weekly. We are starting to bring back additional volunteers to continue to expand our programming. Click here for information on how to access IN-SIGHT Radio.

Summer Youth Camp: because the restrictions on summer camps would make it very difficult for us to deliver the experience our campers have come to expect, unfortunately, we are not hosting our camp this summer. We look forward to returning this important program in July 2021.

Yoga Classes: due to the current state restrictions on the number of people who can participate in fitness classes at one time, we are currently unable to restart in-person classes. We are however offering a weekly virtual class, which you can access here: Virtual Yoga Classes

Support Groups: as our groups typically don’t meet in July or August anyway, we will not be hosting support group meetings this summer. We hope to have an update on when the groups will restart by the end of the summer.

Book Club: Due to the restrictions on group gatherings, and the challenge of having a discussion group with social distancing and masks, we are currently not offering in-person book club meetings. We are however offering a once-a-month virtual meeting (participate by video or phone). For more information, contact us a info@in-sight.org.

Recreational Programs: due to the restrictions on group activities, we will not be able to offer our summer Northern Rhode Island Tour or the Essex Rail and Sail trip this year. We hope to reschedule them for 2021.
