Volunteering

All quality non-profit organizations need community resources to help them achieve their goals. At INSIGHT, volunteers are not only welcomed and appreciated, but are an integral part of our operation.  We are currently seeking volunteers for the following areas:

Radio Reading Volunteer

INSIGHT Radio is our closed circuit radio reading service, which each day delivers news and other information to hundreds of blind and visually impaired Rhode Islanders. We depend on a committed corps of volunteers to read content that is aired twenty-four hours per day, seven days per week.

We are currently seeking volunteers who are available one morning per week from 8AM - 11AM to read the Providence Journal. Volunteers cut stories from the print newspaper from 8AM - 8:30AM, read the death notices from 8:30AM - 9:00AM, and then read the news from the 9AM - 11AM. Each volunteer alternates reading articles, so no one reads for more than a few minutes at a time. Volunteers must be willing to make at least a six month commitment, must be reliable, and must be able to read the English language aloud in a clear way. No prior radio broadcasting experience is needed and training will be provided.
